Nature Reviews

A selection of cover art for various Nature Reviews journals and supplements, including the Genetics, Microbiology and Immunology titles. Key to the cover design of every issue is the consultation process with the editorial team, in which it is discussed how best to communicate often very abstract concepts in innovative ways.

Nature Publishing Group launched the first Nature Reviews titles in 2000 with high quality illustrations and high-impact reviews written by leading international researchers. The Nature Reviews series now includes 15 titles in the life sciences and clinical fields.

Project details

The slide sequence shows journal issues with cover art highlighting topics as diverse as genetic drift, chaos theory, DNA fingerprinting, vaccination and psychrophiles. The majority of these images were created using a combination of 3D software and photo-compositing techniques. The feature image for 'genetic drift' (with boats), for example, uses approximately five original photos to achieve the final result.
