The Waiheke Island International Festival of Jazz has been growing in popularity since its inception in the mid-nineties. Set amongst the vineyards, sandy beaches and native forests of Waiheke Island in New Zealand’s Hauraki Gulf, the festival attracts many world-class performers every year. For many years the festival has held a competition to encourage artists and designers to contribute their ideas for the event poster.
The aim of this design concept was to take some of the more iconic instruments of the jazz world and fuse them with the island's natural settings, represented by the seascape, flora and fauna. The posters have been designed with an unrefined, retro quality in keeping with the tradition and raw spirit of the music.
